Lisa Hanna, planning director for the City of Decatur, told the board that staff had received an email from the applicant’s engineer at about 2:30 p.m. the same day asking that the item be removed from the agenda. According to Hanna’s reading of the email, the engineer wrote, “I apologize for the late notice, but we received the agenda packet and went through the comments and realized that we cannot present a hardship case that would justify the variance. Therefore, we would like to have this item removed, and we will comply with the set back requirements. Our apologies for any inconvenience or late notice.” The board treated the submission as a withdrawal, and no further action was taken.
Board members confirmed there would be no tabling or additional action; Hanna said the case would be closed. The meeting then moved to new or future business, where Hanna reported no new applications for variances or special exceptions had been received as of that date. The board adjourned at approximately 3:32 p.m.
No formal motions or votes were taken on the variance request because the applicant withdrew the request before any hardship justification was presented.
