Court proclaims August as Emergency Management Appreciation Month

Kaufman County’s commissioners on July 22 approved a proclamation designating August as Emergency Management Appreciation Month.
The proclamation noted that emergency and disaster events can occur unexpectedly and recognized emergency managers at local, state and federal levels for preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery efforts. The judge (presiding official) read the proclamation and said staff are working to produce a shortened emergency manual to share with fire departments, police departments and city managers to clarify responsibilities if communications and 9-1-1 systems are disrupted.
"If something happens and all of our resources go down, let's say we don't have cell phones, We don't it knocks out our 9-1-1 tire for the sheriff. Who's in charge? What steps come next?" the judge asked while introducing the proclamation; the judge said staff are preparing a reader's-digest version of a larger manual to improve response coordination.
Commissioner Lane moved and Commissioner Moore seconded the proclamation, which the court approved by voice vote.
