Kaufman County’s collections department reported July 22 that it collected $377,712.57 in criminal court fees during the second quarter of 2025, a decline from both the previous quarter and from the same period in 2024.
"We collected a total of $377,712.57 in criminal court fees. This was a decrease of 3.92% from our previous quarter, and this was also a decrease of 9.66 over the same period of 2024," Courtney, the collections presenter, told the court. Courtney said the larger 2024 April figure had been boosted by a large victim restitution payment, and that otherwise the office is trending upward.
The court also accepted a statement of continuing education hours from Tax Assessor Teresa as part of standard annual requirements; Teresa explained her reporting year differs because of a June start date. The court approved accepting the document by motion.
Separately, Teresa asked the court to approve a contract to collect taxes for a Municipal Management District No. 1 (the presenter characterized it similarly to a MUD). Teresa said the district would be charged the same collection fees as other entities; commissioners approved the collection contract by voice vote.
Commissioners approved the collections report, accepted the assessor’s transcript and authorized the county to collect taxes for the municipal management district during the meeting.
