Council starts five‑year charter review process, sets appointments for August meeting

Council member Tim Woods initiated the charter review process during the Stafford City Council meeting on July 16, saying the Stafford City Charter calls for a charter review commission every five years and that the last recorded review occurred in February 2018.
“According to our city charter, there's supposed to be a charter review commission … 5 years,” Woods said. He asked City Secretary Roxanne to confirm the timing; Roxanne confirmed the five‑year schedule and noted the last commission was in “02/2018.”
Woods moved that each council member make one appointment to serve on the home‑rule charter commission at the council's first regular meeting in August, which he identified as Aug. 6. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Woods provided a list of prior commission members as historical context and noted that some former members have since passed away. The council set the appointments schedule and placed the commission formation on the August agenda for formal membership selection.
