Texas Board of Nursing withdraws approval for Lampson Institute vocational nursing program; orders teach‑out and records protections

The Texas Board of Nursing voted unanimously on July 16 to withdraw approval of Lampson Institute’s vocational nursing program in San Antonio after determining the program had not met required corrective measures ordered in April.
Board staff cited the program’s failure to timely submit required curriculum updates implementing the Differentiated Essential Competencies (DECs), inconsistent clinical learning experiences and missing policies required by the board order. The Board’s April order had required Lampson Institute to update curriculum, demonstrate clinical experiences across required specialty areas, confirm the program director’s authority and provide no‑cost remediation for current and former students who lacked needed instruction.
Interim Director Erica Fain told the Board she had worked to update curriculum and secure OB clinical and simulation opportunities, and had offered virtual and in‑person ATI review to former students; she said she had reached out to graduates who had not yet passed NCLEX and arranged additional reviews and simulation access. Corporate representatives said the organization would appoint an experienced dean of nursing to oversee remediation and curriculum work and that the corporate executive team pledged resources to help students.
But Board members concluded the institute did not meet the April deadlines nor the standards the Board requires for continued approval. After deliberation the Board adopted a motion to withdraw program approval and ordered a teach‑out plan and protections to preserve students’ records and transcripts. The Board required Lampson to submit a teach‑out plan within two weeks, provide access to school records including transcripts, and either allow current students to complete the program under a supervised teach‑out or provide comparable transfer options to other accredited programs.
Board staff said they will work with Lampson Institute to ensure students receive required clinical instruction and remediation and to maintain records until each enrolled student completes a teach‑out or transfers. The Board emphasized the action is intended to protect students and patients by ensuring program standards are met or that students are transitioned to programs that can provide required training.
