Board reviews middle- and high-school construction progress; approves contract and change order

Muhlenberg County school leaders updated the board on middle- and high-school renovation work and the board approved a construction-related contract and a change order.
Staff reported the district has completed major moisture mitigation and is proceeding with flooring, roofing and masonry work. A presenter said moisture mitigation was completed in the affected building and that flooring installation would begin the following Monday. The district reported the project remains on schedule, with a completion date for one building listed as Nov. 29, 2025, and classroom renovation work nearly complete with classroom and restroom doors pending delivery.
During the meeting a staff member recommended approval of an AIB agreement with Esplanade for the middle- and high-school project and recommended approval of Change Order No. 1 to address gutters and replacement of damaged base where noted. The board approved the contract and the change order on voice votes with no recorded opposition.
The board also received technical updates from construction staff including: field-house Change Order No. 3 (electrical run to the existing baseball dugout) was reported complete; Change Order No. 2 (install a new 3-inch PVC water line to replace an old water line) was slated to begin the following week; and about 80% of exterior masonry work was reported installed. One presenter said the new roof cover material was delivered and roof work would begin the next week so interior trades could proceed.
District staff reported a $250,111 cost specifically attributed to moisture mitigation in building areas described as area B, and said the mitigation was required by the flooring manufacturer to preserve the product warranty.
Board members did not add further direction beyond approving the contract and change order; staff said they will coordinate schedules with contractors and bring remaining contract administration items back to the board as needed.
