The Genola Town Council authorized the mayor to sign documents accepting a 2010 Freightliner Type 4 fire engine from the state at no cost. Chief McMullen and other staff described the vehicle as a significant operational improvement compared with one of the town’s older military-surplus heavies: the donated unit is newer (approximately 25 years newer than the truck it will replace), features a four-door cab with seat belts for four and arrives with pump, tank and boxes already mounted.
The council voted to authorize the mayor to sign the acceptance paperwork; staff noted the arrangement requires the town to maintain insurance and to keep the vehicle in service while it is assigned. Council members expressed appreciation for the donation and directed staff to arrange minor cosmetic changes (stripe colors and departmental markings) rather than expensive repainting.
The mayor was authorized to finalize the no-cost acquisition so the department can take possession and place the truck into service.
