The Alba Tourism and Convention Development Committee heard several staff and organizer reports covering a recent arts festival, the hog roast and golf tournament, tourism logo concepts and city public-works updates. Members were also told that committee member Terry Parsons has resigned her seat.
Neskantucket festival: An organizer reported 46 vendors registered for 49 booth spaces (47 inside, two outside). High winds damaged two outdoor booths Friday night. The organizer said the event raised $1,830 from registration and $715 from food-truck sales, and received 38 quilts from 13 artists for the quilt show; a people's-choice vote drew 153 ballots. The organizer reported $195.19 in tracked spending in Alba during the festival and said vendor survey response was limited (nine returns), but responses rated location and timing positively.
Hog roast and golf tournament: An organizer reported the two-day event drew more than 250 attendees. The golf tournament had 119 participants, and the organizer said about 75% of those were non-Alba residents, bringing visitors from multiple states; sponsors and donations helped offset costs. The organizer said the tournament is intended primarily to attract visitors and benefit local hotels and restaurants.
Tourism logo and committee business: Committee members reviewed draft logo concepts prepared by Katie Grama for the Alba Tourism and Convention Development Committee and agreed to continue refining designs over the coming months. Members noted the logo is not a quick decision and encouraged further input.
Staff updates: A staff or guest speaker reported completed and ongoing public-works items: roll-off dumpsters have been packed down, a new grama-root feature in the south is finished and is being filled, Harbor Road resurfacing is largely done though another layer is planned next year, and street crews have completed chip seals on portions of South Third and began work on South Fourth.
Resignation and vacancy: Committee members were told Terry Parsons resigned the committee, citing that her business no longer fits the hotel/motel category because of long-term residents at the establishment. The committee described the vacancy as the hotel/motel/Airbnb representative seat and asked interested candidates to contact Mary Ann Barton by email at mjrbarton@gmail.com.
Committee members thanked event organizers for their reports and closed routine business with adjournment.
