The board also approved a one‑day entertainment license for a Colombian Independence Day celebration on the McMacken Veterans Memorial Park lawn (Diana Cardona) on July 17, 2025, a Chocolate Toffee first‑anniversary event at Sandler Square on July 20, 2025, and a five‑date weekly summer concert series at Sandler Square on Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The commission additionally granted outdoor seating for Choco Lafe LLC at 9 Dehone Street (10 seats, requested hours 6 a.m.–9 p.m.), and approved a one‑day entertainment permit for a motorcycle stunt show planned in the parking lot at 649 Squire Road on Aug. 2, 2025 (rain date Aug. 3). The neighborhood developers’ annual Shirley Avenue Cultural Festival at Sandler Square was also approved for Sept. 20, 2025, 1 p.m.–4 p.m. (rain location Garfield School gym).
Why it matters: The approvals clear the way for summer cultural, community and commercial activity on Revere’s beachfront and Shirley Avenue corridor. Several applicants said the events are intended to draw residents to neighborhood businesses and promote active, family‑friendly street use.
Board discussion and public support: The applications drew largely supportive public comment. Laura Christopher of MassDevelopment told the commission the agency had worked with organizers on similar pop‑up events and had confidence in the applicants’ outreach; Councilor Ira Novosalski (Ward 2) and multiple representatives of the Revere Community Committee and the Revere Chamber of Commerce voiced support for events that will bring additional foot traffic to Shirley Avenue and Sandler Square. Applicant Josue Vides Erazo described the Ciclovia concept as “promot[ing] healthy living” by temporarily closing streets to motor vehicles to allow walking and biking.
Conditions and logistics: Applicants said they had or were securing required police details and coordination with the police department for street closings and traffic control; several noted vendor, food‑truck and public‑safety arrangements would be finalized in follow‑up with city staff. The commission approved the permits by voice vote after motions to approve were made and seconded.
