Middletown building committee reports steady progress; district installs three new computer labs with grant funding

Members of the Middletown building committee reported regular progress on the new school project during the July 17 meeting and said contracts are largely in place and costs are trending below estimates. Committee members said the project is approximately 80% contracted and that site work and early construction activities are advancing on schedule.
Separately, the district's technology director reported installation of three new computer labs (two at the middle school and one at the high school) funded through capital improvement and grant funds. The technology update said the department secured a $100,000 grant from the 20 first century technology and equipment fund (as stated in the meeting record) to purchase STEM and CTE equipment including 3D printers and robotics kits. The new labs are intended to support middle-school STEM programs and high-school CTE and esports use.
Facilities staff also described ongoing summer projects: concession-stand renovations, heater installation to prevent winterization issues, general maintenance and a pilot installation of magnetic whiteboard wall systems at an elementary (Aquidneck) to evaluate their use in classrooms ahead of the new building's design decisions.
Building-committee presenters said soils and early site conditions have been favorable so far and that photo updates and project information are being posted to the school department's website. The committee described the project as on time and on budget as of the July meeting.
