PERRIS, Calif. — The City of Perris Planning Commission on July 16 administered oaths to three reappointed commissioners, approved its June 18 minutes and voted to continue a zoning code text amendment to Aug. 20, 2025.
The reappointments were formalized as the commission’s city clerk administered the oath of office to three commissioners, including Commissioner Julia Menace, who said she was “looking forward to the next 4 years” and thanked the council and her family. Chair Sherry Hammond congratulated the reappointed commissioners and thanked staff for their work.
The commission moved quickly through routine business. It approved the Planning Commission minutes from June 18, 2025, on a 4-yes, 0-no, 1-abstain vote (Vice Chair Shively abstained). The commission then opened public hearing item 6, a zoning code text amendment (No. 2054) proposing to amend Chapter 19.44 of Title 19 of the Perris Municipal Code to remove the option to allow warehouses and distribution centers in the business park zone subject to a conditional use permit; no members of the public commented and the commission voted 5-0 to continue the item to the Aug. 20, 2025 meeting.
Planning staff briefed the commission on upcoming items. The planning manager (unnamed in the record) told commissioners the Aug. 6 meeting will include a proposal for a Vallarta shopping center, a trailer storage and maintenance yard, a commercial shopping center on Ramona Expressway and a street-naming request, and noted the second annual Taste of Perris Music Festival at the Railway Museum on July 19.
There was no extended debate on the zoning amendment during the hearing; the item was continued for further review and processing. The meeting closed after brief commissioner reports about recent community events and the chair moved to adjourn.
