Building department says permitting revenue on track to meet $425,000 projection

Building department staff told Valley County commissioners on July 16 that permitting revenue is tracking toward the department’s fiscal projection of $425,000 for the year.
“We collected $334,561. We still have the months of July, August, September. So I do think we will meet the projected estimated amount of 425,000,” a county staff member said during the meeting.
The staff member said the department expects seasonal variation to affect monthly totals and noted the summer months typically bring higher permitting activity. The department reported it needed about $90,438 more to reach the $425,000 projection; the staff member said they expect to collect that amount during the remaining months of the reporting period.
Annette, who normally presents for the building department, was not at the meeting; the staff member said Annette and the building department are seeing more applications and inspections. Commissioners did not take formal action on the projection; the item was an informational update.
Commissioners and staff discussed the timing of revenue recognition across summer months and the effect of higher seasonal permitting on the year-end estimate.
