Dr. Horsey presented revisions to Policy 7.1 and the associated administrative regulation (AR), describing updates to personnel goals, definitions of employee roles, recruitment and retention language, and a more detailed code of conduct for employees.
Dr. Horsey said the AR addresses use of district-issued devices and prohibits cyberbullying, harassment and inappropriate content on school-issued equipment. Board members asked whether the policy addresses employees' use of personal social-media accounts to criticize the district. Dr. Horsey said the AR addresses issued devices and that the employee handbook, slated for distribution in August, will provide more detail about expectations on personal accounts; she also said policy 5.16, which will be updated and brought back to the board, will explicitly address social media.
Board members asked about AI use; Dr. Horsey said the district intends to create guardrails as the technology evolves. Board members emphasized a desire to be proactive rather than reactive when defining boundaries for staff speech about classroom matters and student safety; Dr. Horsey said personnel matters arising from disruptive posts would be investigated and handled under personnel procedures.
No vote was taken; the item remained at the first- or committee-review stage and staff said they will return with the employee handbook and proposed updates to policy 5.16 for more specific language on social media.
