Board: student reregistration underway; final numbers expected next meeting

Middlesex Borough School District board members discussed the district's reregistration effort for the coming school year and said staff were still reviewing submissions with a planned completion date of Aug. 1.

Board materials set a June 25 deadline for families to submit reregistration records. Board members said district staff spent July verifying submissions, contacting households that did not respond and following up on incomplete or insufficient documents. The meeting record notes that Mr. Vanderhoff is reviewing each submission and sending letters to nonrespondents.

The administration did not present final totals at the meeting. Board members and staff told attendees that the month of July was dedicated to verification work and that the administration expected to report more complete numbers at the next regular board meeting.

During the public-comment period a speaker said roughly half of the expected re-registrations had been completed; the board did not provide a districtwide confirmed percentage during the meeting. The board also indicated that families who had not completed the process were being contacted, and that outstanding cases required additional follow-up before the district could finalize counts used for planning and attendance records.

Why it matters: accurate reregistration and enrollment counts affect class assignments, staffing and operational planning for the start of the school year. The district said it would provide updated figures at the next meeting.

The board did not take formal action on reregistration at the meeting and deferred final reporting until verification work is complete.
