Austin Energy officials and the project developer told commissioners the battery is intended to provide capacity for afternoon and evening ramps, carry ancillary services and produce market revenues that help offset capital costs. Michael Langer, vice president for Energy Market Operations, said the project is being sized and contracted to allow monetization of federal investment tax credits under current rules and that the company expects the project to meet domestic‑content thresholds that extend eligibility through 2033.
