Wayne County commission chair elected second vice president of National Association of Counties

The chair of the Wayne County Commission told colleagues during the July 17 meeting that she was elected second vice president of the National Association of Counties (NACo). "I was elected second vice president of that organization," the chair said. She told commissioners that she will serve as second vice president this year, first vice president next year and is scheduled to take the oath as NACo president in 2027 in Savannah, Georgia. "I will be the third African American woman to be the president of this esteemed organization," she said.
Several commissioners congratulated the chair later in the meeting, praising her campaign and the national attention it brought to Wayne County. Commissioner Wilson described the margin of victory at the NACo election and expressed pride in the chair's leadership; other commissioners noted overlapping leadership roles at national and state associations among Wayne County representatives.
