Planning commission asks city manager for monthly code‑enforcement reports

The Petoskey City Planning Commission voted unanimously in July 2025 to ask staff to discuss with the city manager the preparation of a monthly report showing the infractions processed by the city’s code enforcement officer.
Commissioners said current reports do not include enforcement actions handled by Tony, the new code enforcement officer who works for the public safety department, and they asked for a more complete, descriptive monthly report so the commission can consider code‑enforcement patterns when reviewing zoning and other city codes.
Commissioner Charlie moved the request; Commissioner Albert seconded. Commissioners said the report should include details beyond counts — for example, the nature of violations and the zoning districts or locations where they occur — so the Planning Commission can use the data during code updates and when advising City Council.
Staff indicated that Lisa, planning staff, and the planning commission chair will discuss the request with the city manager and provide information at a future meeting.
