Beaumont names Christopher Ramos police chief after national recruitment; council unanimously approves

The city praised Ramos’s 24 years of service, leadership of operations and support divisions, and his role leading technology and grant initiatives for the department.
Captain Christopher Ramos told the council: “It’s been an honor to be selected to lead the men and women of the Beaumont Police Department into the future. I know this department to be the most dedicated professional group of men and women in law enforcement, and I’m really excited for what this next chapter brings.”
Background: staff said Ramos holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s in public safety leadership, is enrolled in command college and led the implementation of the department’s new computer‑aided dispatch and records management system. The city said he also helped secure grant funding and supported a regional radio communications transition.
Public comment: several residents and police personnel attended and offered congratulations. Anita Worthen told the council she is “so glad” the appointment happened and praised Ramos’s long service to the community.
Vote: The motion to approve the employment agreement and authorize the city manager to sign passed on a roll call vote with Council members Finn, Martinez, White, Mayor Pro Tem Voigt and Mayor Laura voting yes.
