Committee approves transportation policy restricting bus service to a single address

The Chariho Regional School Committee voted July 15 to approve a revised transportation policy that limits district bus service to a single address per student.
The policy had been previously tabled and reviewed by the policy and legal subcommittees. During the meeting, committee members acknowledged the restriction could present difficulties for families whose children live at more than one address. Committee member Jess said she would have preferred broader transportation service but supported the policy because “my attempts to add more funds to the transportation line of the budget has not been successful.” Jess said she would “support this policy as written because I think that we do need to restrict transportation, at this time.”
The committee voted to adopt the policy; the motion carried unanimously.
What comes next: the policy will be posted with an updated effective date of 07/16/2025 and implemented for the upcoming school year.
