Board members also raised structural issues: settling and a developing sinkhole north of the terminal; a crack running from a hangar through to the sidewalk near living quarters; and uneven hangar floors. Members recommended cleaning out the office building to permit a professional assessment of whether to repair or demolish the existing terminal building and living quarters. One member said the city budgeted about $50,000 this year for airport improvements.
The board discussed using one hangar for equipment storage (tractor, broom, blower) and possible modest living-quarters remodel funds to create a pilot lounge, staff office and vending space. Members emphasized taking a gradual, consultative approach to inspections and repairs to reduce resistance from hangar tenants; suggestions included holding an open meeting in a hangar to preview inspection plans.
Board members reported a recent FAA visit and noted several outdated directory listings; they asked that the airport manager coordinate updates to the city website and FAA directories. The board did not vote on any specific repairs during the meeting.
