On enrollment, Grimes said the district materials show a preliminary decline "around 100 students" compared month to month; he emphasized those figures are not final and the official count date is Oct. 1, which finalizes enrollment for the fiscal year. He said kindergarten sections at Mitchell have shifted from three sections to two in the current documents.
On staffing, Grimes summarized certified staffing updates included in board materials: hires, transfers and continuing vacancies, particularly in special education and late high school resignations in science and ALP math. He said the district has conducted interviews to fill some of those openings.
Grimes also reviewed donations. The packet listed 19 anonymous donors totaling $1,400 to the Lunch Hero program, a $500 cash donation from the Ames Women’s Club and multiple student lunch-balance donations, with individual amounts in the materials ranging from $83.77 to $0.17.
