The Grand Island Town Board reviewed feedback from the planning board on Local Law No. 6 (2023), which proposes changes to allowable uses in the M‑1 district and limits on developable area and impervious coverage.
A planning-board meeting produced comments and a split vote (reported as 6–1). Planning-board members took exception to several provisions in the draft, including whether a 350,000‑square‑foot campus threshold and a 50% developable‑land coverage (excluding regulated features) are appropriate. One town board member said he favored using a 50% impervious‑coverage approach rather than a 25% building‑footprint limit proposed by long-range planning, but noted that planning-board members raised concerns on other elements.
The town supervisor said the planning board would provide formal notes. The board did not take further action at the workshop and will consider planning-board comments when they are received.
