Chief Thompson praised his staff and city leadership and said the department is “in a great place” with assistant chiefs and promoted officers ready to continue the work. Mayor Jenkins and other council members thanked the chief for his service and praised his leadership.
The chief’s formal retirement date will be July 31; department succession planning will proceed internally. Council members publicly thanked Chief Thompson and offered congratulations and well wishes.
