The Bennington Public Schools Board of Education on July 14 approved multiple motions by roll call, all recorded as passing in favor by the voting members present. The board handled policy reaffirmations, personnel and payroll changes, early construction awards (tennis-court package), and the superintendent's contract in a single meeting.
Key votes the board recorded that evening were:
- Reaffirm student-fee policy (504.19): Motion to reaffirm policy 504.19 passed by roll call (all voting members present voted yes). The board had held a public hearing earlier in the meeting and the district reported no public comments on the policy at that hearing.
- Reaffirm parental-involvement policy (1005.03): Motion to reaffirm policy 1005.03 passed by roll call (all voting members present voted yes).
- Approve revision of 17 proposed policies (second reading): Motion to approve policy revisions as presented passed by roll call (all voting members present voted yes).
- Approve tennis-court early bid package (second high school): Motion to award the tennis-courts package as presented (total $661,611, individual subcontractor awards as listed in the district presentation) passed by roll call (all voting members present voted yes). (See separate article for project details.)
- Approve statutory training-time resolution: Motion to approve a resolution setting the district's reasonable training lengths for certain statutory trainings during 2025–26 passed by roll call (all voting members present voted yes). The resolution included suggested time allowances for trainings the law referenced (for example, suicide-prevention training at 60 minutes; threat assessment team training at 20 minutes; dating-violence prevention training at ~34 minutes per the presentation).
- Approve curriculum/personnel proposal (coaching): Motion to accept curriculum committee recommendation for personnel proposal number 13 (head girls wrestling coach) passed by roll call (all voting members present voted yes); the district noted the position is budgeted at about $15,090 pending final 2025–26 budget approval.
- Approve substitute-pay increases and retention bonus: Motion to set short-term substitute pay at $175 and long-term substitute pay at $190 and to approve a retention bonus proposal (a $300 bonus per semester for substitutes who work at least 60% of days in the specified challenge periods) passed by roll call (all voting members present voted yes). The administration estimated the annual cost of the bonus, if fully paid last year, would have been roughly $5,500–$6,000.
- Approve superintendent contract: Motion to approve the superintendent contract for Dr. Aaron Boss for the 2025–26 through 2027–28 school years passed by roll call (all voting members present voted yes).
Roll-call votes as recorded during the meeting showed unanimous yes votes from the six voting members present for the motions above. The district clerk conducted roll calls for each motion; votes were recorded as yes by the board members listed during the roll calls.
The board's action list for the evening included additional routine consent-agenda approvals (minutes, bills, personnel) taken earlier in the meeting that also passed on roll-call votes.
Actions listed here were recorded from the meeting's motions and roll-call results as presented in the district's July 14 meeting.
