The Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee on July 14 approved the statement of benefits for Roche Diagnostics’ tax-abatement request (proposal 211), supporting the company’s planned campus expansion in the Castleton allocation area.
Program staff said Roche’s application requests a 10-year real-property and 10-year personal-property tax abatement tied to a major campus expansion. Scott Wilson, vice president of tax and treasury for Roche Diagnostics, said the company plans to invest about $550 million over the next five to seven years, expand manufacturing for continuous glucose monitoring technology, and create approximately 650 new manufacturing jobs while retaining more than 2,600 existing positions on its Northeast Side campus.
Wilson said the new jobs will be high-tech manufacturing positions with average salaries above $80,000; Roche plans to invest in manufacturing equipment and real-property expansion. He also said Roche would continue and enhance its relationship with EmployIndy and intends to provide a $2 million commitment to EmployIndy as part of its inclusivity commitments.
Councilor Nick Roberts, whose district includes the Roche campus, said he was “100% in support” and framed the expansion as a boost to the Northeast Side and to the city’s life-sciences and STEM ecosystem. The committee recorded a motion and the transcript shows the motion carried; the record does not display a roll-call tally.
