The Cascade City Council approved six resolutions and confirmed a library board appointment at its regular Monday meeting.
Council members voted unanimously to approve Resolution 73-25, transferring city-owned property to the Cascade Economic Development Corporation; Resolution 74-25, which schedules a public hearing on an additional proposed property transfer; Resolution 75-25, appointing a trustee to fill the remaining three-year term on the Cascade Public Library board; Resolution 76-25, approving a quote from Dreyer Painting to repaint the municipal pool; Resolution 77-25, awarding work on Buchanan Street southwest from Fifth Avenue to Riverview Road; and Resolution 78-25, approving final pay application on the Iowa 136/Johnson Street reconstruction project.
The property-transfer item discussed during the public hearing was described by council members as primarily involving the city’s former pump station parcel and a reciprocal exchange of property; council discussion noted a 200-foot control radius around the well that affects the footprint of any transfer. The council moved directly from the public hearing into a vote on Resolution 73-25.
During the library appointment, a man who identified himself in the meeting transcript as “Mister Smith” described his background, including undergraduate and law degrees and military service. The council approved the appointment; the minutes/roll call recorded the appointee name as "Billy Meade." The transcript does not make clear whether those are the same person; the meeting record lists the appointment as Resolution 75-25.
On the pool project, council members said Dreyer Painting provided the only bid received and reminded the council that $40,000 had been budgeted for the project. For Buchanan Street, staff described the planned pavement work as placing a 1-inch leveling asphalt layer followed by 2 inches of finish asphalt; the council noted the county is doing concurrent work on Riverview Road, which improved the city’s price on the Buchanan Street segment. For the Iowa 136/Johnson Street project the city manager said only a small amount of remaining engineering work and reconciliation remained before the project is fully closed out.
These measures were approved by roll call votes with all members present voting in the affirmative.
