Garrett County commissioners commend Garrett Basslayers junior anglers

GARRETT COUNTY, Md. — The Garrett County Board of Commissioners presented certificates of commendation July 7 to members of the Garrett Basslayers for two top finishes in the Maryland Bass Nation Junior State Championship.
Commissioners read certificates recognizing the winning team, led by captain Brian Marsh, and the runners-up, led by captain Bart Schaeffer. The board said the awards honored the participants for "dedication, perseverance and exemplary sportsmanship" and wished the teams well in future events.
Members called forward included Miles Schaeffer, Maddox Schaeffer, Bristol Riley and Madison Riley; Marsh and Schaeffer were identified as team captains. A team member said the Junior Nationals weigh-ins will be broadcast live and that the event is scheduled at Clarks Hill Reservoir in Georgia later this month; the transcript records the team member saying viewers can watch on bassmaster.com/juniornationals and that competitors from all 50 states will participate.
The commissioners signed certificates and congratulated the young anglers. The recognition took place near the end of the meeting; commissioners also announced the next regular public meeting will be held July 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Crellin Community Center.
