Danville board unanimously approves federal grant applications and personnel recommendations

The Danville City School Board on June 5 unanimously approved a series of federal grant applications and personnel recommendations, including a Title I Part A preliminary allocation of $5,248,000 for the 2025–26 school year.
School staff told the board the Title I funds — provided under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act — would be used for supplemental instructional salaries, transportation for field trips, professional development, parent and family engagement activities, instructional supplies and federal school improvement activities. The board also approved Title II Part A (preliminary allocation about $486,818), Title III Part A (preliminary allocation $36,910), Title IV Part A (preliminary allocation $358,179) and a Title V (rural education) application. The board approved transferring Title IV funds to support Title II activities where permitted under federal rules.
Personnel recommendations brought forward by human-resources staff were approved during the meeting after a motion and roll call. Presenters said final federal allocations will be set in the fall and the applications require signature of the cover pages for submission to the Virginia Department of Education by the July 1, 2025 deadline.
Each motion was made and seconded on the record and passed by roll call with all members present voting in favor. The board’s recorded votes in the meeting transcript list the same set of board members in favor for each action.
