Council to review Cooperative Cultural Center plans; staff to host public presentation and survey

Malia, project manager for the Cooperative Cultural Center (CCC) project, told the council she intends to present the architects’ current work on building systems and to gather public input on community priorities.

She said architects are working on infrastructure (HVAC, ducting, thermostat and lighting placement) and that the project has not moved to detailed room‑by‑room programming. Malia proposed a two-step outreach plan: present a draft to the council for feedback, then hold a public presentation and short survey to collect community preferences about the CCC and the Bluff Community Center (BCC). She said the public session should be focused on the two buildings and on how grants are allocated so the community can weigh in on needs rather than speculative ideas about parks or unrelated facilities.

Councilmembers recommended that Malia present to the council at the next meeting (the council agreed on July 15 as the target) and then host a public presentation after the planning and zoning meeting (staff suggested a July 17 date following the planning and zoning session) so that architects can incorporate feedback before their August deliverables.

The council asked Malia to emphasize realistic constraints in public materials — infrastructure limitations, grant conditions and the architects’ current design scope — and to include senior center users in the outreach. Malia said she would prepare a short slide presentation and a survey and coordinate a possible pre‑brief with DRC (the group that has worked on the CCC) prior to the council presentation.
