Director DeVola successfully moved to replace a line on page five regarding the district's values. The amendment reads: "We value all people by respecting and celebrating everyone's individual worth and contributions." After discussion, the board approved the handbook as amended.
Director Schmidt raised a point about cautious language given recent state executive orders and guidance; Superintendent Hiltz and board members discussed balancing clarity with legal and policy considerations. Director Heil voted against a particular amendment earlier in the meeting but voted with the majority on the final handbook approval. The final roll call recorded all present board members voting in favor of the handbook.
The handbook approval is administrative and will be used across Waypoint campuses. Board members said the handbook can be updated by future motions if further legal or policy changes require it.
