The Los Alamos Inclusivity Task Force reported that the County Council granted the group an extension through February 2026 to complete its work and that the task force will pursue scheduled trainings for members and representatives of other county boards and commissions.
Chair Elizabeth reported that "That is through the February 2026. They did offer us more time, and I declined that based on our conversations," and said the task force preferred a finite deadline. (Chair Elizabeth, Los Alamos Inclusivity Task Force.)
Task force members agreed to pursue two initial training partners: the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico for a Trans 101 session and internal or county presenters for sessions on cultural humility and implicit bias. Member Richard proposed a cultural-humility workshop that asks participants to examine their own cultural assumptions and continue learning over time; Richard also suggested implicit-bias training.
County staff reminded the task force that trainings will need to be noticed as public meetings. The group discussed scheduling options (lunch, evenings, weekends) and decided to aim to schedule trainings in September rather than August to avoid summer travel conflicts. The task force also asked staff to invite the county transportation staff member James Barela to address transportation-related inclusivity issues and added the police chief and other presenters to a tentative list of future presenters.
Administrative business: the task force voted to approve the meeting agenda and to approve last week's minutes. The motions were passed by voice vote with all members present voting in favor.
Votes at a glance - Motion to approve this week's agenda: outcome: approved; mover/second: not specified in the transcript; tally: yes 6, no 0, abstain 0; notes: routine administrative approval. - Motion to approve last week's minutes: outcome: approved; mover/second: not specified in the transcript; tally: yes 6, no 0, abstain 0; notes: routine administrative approval.
Next steps: task force chairs will attempt to schedule the trainings during existing meeting slots or find an alternative county meeting time, prioritize September for trainer availability and higher attendance, collect working-group reports by November, and reduce meeting frequency over December and January while compiling the final report.
