Secondary roads foreman reports resurfacing, bridge work and gravel hauling across county
Summary
The county secondary roads foreman updated supervisors on resurfacing projects on B55 and P30, completed widening of P30, bridge pier work north of Sexton and ongoing gravel hauling to northeast areas. Staff also noted staffing recruitment and other operational tasks.
The Kossuth County secondary roads foreman told the Board of Supervisors that resurfacing and shoulder work are underway on multiple roads and that crews are making progress despite intermittent rain.
Staff reported resurfacing work on B55 (intermediate lift in place, final lift pending), completed widening on P30 and ongoing shouldering. Bridge work north of Sexton has progressed to driven pier piles and crews are preparing to pour caps. The micro-surfacing project near I-09 and A42 is underway; additional micro-surfacing and resurfacing segments will follow as weather allows.
Crews were hauling gravel to northeastern county roads and performing driveway and crossroads repairs. Staff said they are recruiting for an engineering aide and an Almona shop operator and that the county will coordinate removal of materials at the county junkyard corner. The foreman noted that adjacent street construction at the courthouse recycling site is impeding container servicing and that containers may be temporarily removed if contractors block access.
The foreman also briefed the board on fiscal-year close tasks for self-insurance reporting and noted a pending comp-plan meeting for the county waste management association.
