Patton said the park is "well over halfway there" toward needed funds and that the grant represents a significant opportunity, especially for the park's school-group programming. He also said the county has not issued a formal public release because the award must still pass an administrative board before it is final.
Patton also described upcoming events at Charlton Park. He said the steam show runs Thursday through Saturday from about 8 a.m. until dusk and that the county is hosting the International Harvester State Show this year, which he estimated would add roughly 200 tractors to the event. He said the parade, thrashing, sawmill demonstrations and other fair activities are planned, and described an additional event the following weekend.
Commissioners asked to be kept informed; staff said they would provide updates and additional details, including public announcements, after the administrative approval was complete.
