Temecula deputies honored for DUI enforcement; police report May–June calls for service

The Temecula City Council on July 8 recognized four Southwest Station traffic deputies for 2024 DUI enforcement and received a public-safety report covering May and June 2025 calls for service.

MADD awards: Lieutenant Pearson announced that Mothers Against Drunk Driving honored Deputy Stephanie Ott (27 DUI arrests in 2024), Corporal Trevor Downs (37), Deputy Joshua Kale (83) and Deputy Christopher Grimm (100), the organization’s ‘‘century award.’’ ‘‘I thank you all for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the mission in protecting and making the city of Temecula a safer place to live and visit,’’ Lieutenant Pearson said.

Why it matters: MADD recognizes officers who meet arrest thresholds (minimum 25 arrests for an award; 100+ for the century award). Council members and the city thanked the deputies for traffic enforcement that officials said reduces injuries and deaths in traffic collisions.

Public-safety statistics: The department presented monthly call-volume figures. In May 2025, Temecula deputies handled 5,747 calls for service: 55 priority-1 calls, 2,413 priority-3 calls and other categories; incidents listed for May included juvenile medical aids, traffic collisions, robberies, burglaries, missing children, and a bomb threat. June 2025 saw 5,703 calls for service with 59 priority-1 calls and incidents that included juvenile medical aids, collisions, burglaries, attempted suicides and a drowning.

Council remarks and closure: Council members thanked deputies and staff for their service. No policy changes were proposed during the presentation; the statistics were delivered as an informational public-safety update.
