Talawanda updates: turf installation nearing completion, PaySchool Central launched, water main fixed; cell-phone policy in development

District leaders told the board on July 9 that several operational items are progressing as schools prepare for the start of the year.
Board members reported the new stadium turf installation is nearing completion despite rain delays. "If the weather cooperates, they should be able to have the entire thing done by hopefully this weekend or early next week," one board member said, and the board thanked the installers for working in heat and humidity.
Administrators said PaySchool Central replaced EasyPay on July 1 as the district’s credit-card payment processor for fees and meal accounts; current links on the district website route parents from the former EasyPay page to the new service. The superintendent asked staff to prepare communications to notify families of the change.
Facilities staff reported a water-main break at the middle school caused several days without water; crews have repaired the supply line and water service to the building was restored. The board clarified the break was on district property and the district is responsible for the repair costs.
Board members said they are preparing a district policy and procedures in response to state legislation restricting student cell-phone use that requires districts to adopt policies; Neola (the district policy service) had not yet provided a model policy, and administrators said they will bring recommendations to the board in advance of any mandatory adoption deadlines.
Administrators also reminded families that student registration and bus sign-ups are open and encouraged timely registration to avoid late routing changes.
