Representatives of the neighborhood nonprofit 1 Treasure Island reported to the Treasure Island Development Authority on July 9 about ongoing resident services and community programs on the island.
Nela Gonzales, representing 1 Treasure Island, said the organization’s food pantry is “buzzing,” the group served about 200 households at a July 4 event and the nonprofit celebrated the graduation of the 20th cohort of its construction training program. Gonzales noted that graduates from cohorts 5 through 20 attended the ceremony and that one former graduate is working for Bigge Crane as the company’s first female crane operator.
Gonzales said 1 Treasure Island is planning National Night Out for Aug. 5, intends to report back to the board in September on ambassador and wellness programming, and is participating in a pilot air‑pollution study that placed small monitoring vehicles on the island. Gonzales said the nonprofit will report findings from the air monitoring once available.
Board members praised the program. Director Linda Richardson recalled attending graduations and said the resident‑training component is explicitly part of the project’s development agreement (DDA), describing the construction training pipeline as a “game changer” for residents who secure jobs and stay in the region.
No formal action was taken. The report was informational and the board encouraged continued partnership between TIDA and 1 Treasure Island.
