Milwaukee — The county’s Office of Economic Inclusion on Tuesday briefed the Transportation and Transit Committee on small‑business participation in May contracting and the first five months of 2025.
Director (last name Robinson) said approximately $28 million in contracts were posted in May; about $10.5 million was eligible for disadvantaged‑business participation and roughly $3.5 million in contracts were held by certified firms — about 32.9% of eligible dollars and 12.3% of total May awards. The director provided a categorical breakdown for May: about $460,000 to Asian‑owned firms; roughly $122,000 to Black‑owned firms; about $340,000 to Hispanic‑owned firms; about $293,000 to Native American‑owned firms; about $2.2 million to women‑owned firms; and roughly $34,000 to small business set‑asides.
The office noted a decline in total awards compared with the same period in 2024, largely because of differences in the types of contracts let in 2024 versus 2025. The director said the office will modify report visuals and anticipates publishing an updated format in the September cycle.
