The Port of San Francisco won a committee recommendation July 9 to accept and expend a $28,000,000 grant from San Francisco Bay Ferry (regional measure) for the Mission Bay Ferry Landing project. Port staff described the landing site near 16th Street and Terry Francois Boulevard, adjacent to the Chase Center and UCSF, as a tier‑1 expansion in SF Bay Ferry’s 2050 service vision and a project that will add multimodal ferry access to the growing Mission Bay neighborhood.
Megan Wallace, the Port’s interim deputy director of finance and administration, told the committee the $28 million is a critical portion of a $74.4 million funding plan; the Port previously received an EPA grant and expects additional funding from UCSF and local sales tax receipts. The project is intended to support zero‑emission ferry service and is targeted for service in summer 2027. Vice Chair Matt Dorsey and Chair Connie Chan expressed support for the expansion and noted the project’s role in connectivity and sustainability.
No public comment was received on the item. The committee forwarded the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation by roll call (Dorsey, Engardio, Chan — 3 ayes). The Port plans follow‑up requests to the Board for a $4,000,000 UCSF grant and authorization to receive SF sales tax funding for related downtown connections.
