Comcast fiber installation nearing completion; town presses contractor to recondition shoulders

Town staff and council discussed progress on Comcast's fiber installation and resulting right-of-way repairs during the July 8 meeting.
Staff said David Hayden, a principal with the contractor managing the work, reported about 85% of conduit is in place; the contractor expected to complete conduit and pull fiber optic cable by the end of August. Staff described the fiber-pulling stage as largely noninvasive but said final restoration of shoulders and other post-installation reconditioning remains outstanding in many locations.
Councilmembers and staff reported areas where shoulders and water-meter lids were disturbed or buried during work and said they have urged Derek (field supervisor) and the contractor to correct the issues. Staff said the contractor had struck one gas line with a shovel during the work and that contractors are expected to return to finish restorations. Staff expressed the expectation that the shoulder work will be completed before the next council meeting.
Council did not take a separate vote on Comcast matters during the recorded portion of the meeting.
