Interlaken schedules Aug. 5 public hearing to amend budget after county tax-deadline notice

Interlaken Town staff told the council on July 8 that Wasatch County informed the town it had missed a statutorily required June 1 deadline to submit a notice for a proposed tax increase under a recently enacted state law. Staff recommended the council authorize notice of a public hearing on a budget amendment to be held Aug. 5, 2025, followed immediately by the regular council meeting. Councilmembers agreed to publish notice and to post the amended budget materials on the town website according to state notice requirements.
In the staff notes distributed before the meeting, the town proposed reducing projected Wasatch County tax revenue from $230,000 to $200,000 for the current fiscal year; staff said the change and other line-item adjustments will be reflected in the amendment posted for the public hearing.
Staff described the county's notification as the reason for the change and said they will follow state-mandated noticing procedures for the hearing. The transcript records no formal vote count on the authorization to notice the hearing but shows council consensus to proceed.
