No bids for Bedford County broadband towers; county to review Appalachian Regional Commission grant requirements

Marty Malone, a project manager for HCS working on the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) broadband construction projects, told Bedford County commissioners that the county received no bids for its broadband infrastructure towers project.
"We did not receive any bids for the Bedford County broadband infrastructure towers project," Malone said during the meeting. The project envisions three towers in the southeastern part of the county intended to expand broadband service.
County officials said they are reviewing the ARC grant requirements before deciding whether to re-advertise or pursue an alternative procurement route. An unnamed commissioner noted the county’s urgency: "It has taken a long time to get us to this point... We want to get these things built so people can begin having these services."
The county did not receive any bid submissions at the advertised opening. Malone recommended reviewing the ARC grant requirements to ensure future steps remain compliant with the grant before reissuing the solicitation or pursuing another option.
No formal procurement decision was made at the meeting; commissioners said they will continue to seek contractors to complete the work.
