County presenters said a 30% statewide funding decrease led Polk County to cease its marine program; Marion County will assume responsibility for roughly 37 river miles of the Willamette River that Polk County previously covered during the summer. The IGA includes an expected transfer of Polk County’s patrol funds and, separately, a 2022 RiverWild jet patrol boat from Polk County to Marion County. Commissioners and marine staff said the agreement does not create a required minimum patrol hour obligation but does add to the sheriff’s office workload.
