YMCA general manager Jacob Stein told council the Andover YMCA has recorded 688,000 check-ins since reopening 13 months ago, with program participation and outreach including free splash lessons and a Livestrong cancer survivorship program.
Jacob Stein, general manager of the Andover YMCA, briefed the City Council on July 8 on usage and programs since the branch reopened 13 months ago. He said the branch has recorded just over 688,000 check-ins during that period and sold about 3,000 new memberships.
Stein described program participation figures: roughly 78,000 group exercise class attendances, 34,000 parental drop-offs at the kids zone, about 3,000 youth participants across sports (basketball, football, soccer, flag football, volleyball), 150 children served by the free second-grade "Splash" water-safety program, and eight participants in a 12-week Livestrong cancer survivorship program. He said the branch is now the third-busiest in its association and has surpassed pre-tornado membership totals.
Council members asked about equipment replacement cycles and partnerships with school district facilities for youth sports; Stein said cardio equipment is leased on a three-year replacement cycle and thanked Prairie Creek (middle school) for allowing use of its courts to host youth games. He also described an end-of-summer community event planned for August featuring food trucks and a DJ.
The presentation was informational; no city funding decisions were made at the meeting.
