District seeks contract for interpretation and translation services as ESL population grows

Cannon County staff told the board at a July workshop they will present an agreement for interpretation and translation services to support a growing English‑learner population and to assist with IEP meetings, parent‑teacher conferences and written translations such as student handbooks.
Miss Cathy said the district has some devices for translation at schools but prefers a contracted human interpreter for oral and written translation needs, including participation in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and other family conferences. Staff said the contract will include requirements for timesheets, activity logs and preapproval of services.
The board raised no substantive objections at the workshop. Staff said the contract will be presented for approval at the board’s next meeting.
