The Sedona City Council on July 14 approved a construction contract award to Mulcare & Sons Contracting LLC for improvements to the Little Horse shared‑use pathway, from Indian Cliffs Road to the Little Horse Trailhead parking lot, in an amount not to exceed $160,724.40.
Public Works staff described the project as an 825‑linear‑foot, 10‑foot‑wide concrete pathway that follows an existing social route on Forest Service land. City project managers said the design minimized tree impacts, kept grades below 4% and used a meandering alignment separated from the street. The Forest Service provided the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) clearance required to move the work forward; staff said the cost of a separate NEPA compliance study had previously exceeded the project budget until the Forest Service provided clearance.
City staff said construction would begin after city attorney approval of the written contract; the estimated construction duration is approximately 45 days, with completion expected in late summer.
Ending Staff will finalize the contract and schedule construction; staff and Forest Service partners said they will coordinate staging and public notices prior to construction.
