Sarpy County approves multiple collective-bargaining settlements covering police, corrections and county staff
Summary
On July 8 commissioners approved several collective-bargaining agreements covering AFSCME Local 251, Sarpy County employee groups and multiple Fraternal Order of Police units, including multi-year wage increases and standardized benefit changes.
Sarpy County commissioners on July 8 approved a package of collective-bargaining agreements covering county public employees, public-safety communications staff, corrections officers and sworn and non‑sworn law enforcement personnel.
The agreements, adopted by unanimous votes, include single‑year and multi‑year contracts with wage increases ranging from 3% to 7.5% depending on the bargaining unit, standardization of selected benefits across units, and several changes to premiums and leave payout arrangements.
Mark McQueen, who presented the settlements for the county, said the contracts were negotiated with an eye to local market conditions. “We offered a 3% increase…we were making exceptions to that when the local market or the CIR market dictates,” McQueen said, describing the market-driven approach used to set wage terms.
Why it matters: the deals alter pay and benefits for multiple employee groups and are intended to keep Sarpy County competitive for recruitment and retention, particularly for public-safety roles.
