Davis County commissioners postpone ordinance after staff and legal review requested

Davis County commissioners voted to postpone action on an ordinance (agenda item 4) during their July 8 meeting to allow additional internal review and to resolve concerns raised by commissioners.

Commission staff reported that changes since the work session were limited to punctuation and formatting. Brian McKenzie, speaking for the clerk's office, said staff "identified that there was period added and some quotation mark added, inappropriate places. But other than that, the only changes were just taking that document and putting it into ordinance format." He also said he confirmed with administrative officers that they had no outstanding concerns.

Commissioner John Cross said he and Commissioner Bob Stevenson discussed additional concerns after the prior meeting and that more time would allow staff and legal to reconcile differences. After discussion about whether legal review was complete, the commission amended a prior motion and voted to postpone the ordinance until the next meeting so the county's legal review and commissioner concerns can be addressed.

The postponement was framed as an opportunity to "work through those differences and get this passed by all the commissioners," according to McKenzie. No formal changes to the ordinance text were approved at the July 8 meeting.

The clerk's office said the item will return at a future meeting once outstanding edits and legal review are complete.
