Menands raises procurement thresholds in updated purchasing policy

Under the revised policy the board moved the lower discretionary category to $2,500 and set a second threshold at $5,000; public works has discretion up to $5,000 while department heads can approve purchases under $2,500. Purchases above the higher thresholds require written quotes or formal procurement processes. Mayor Marsh said the adjustment reflects rising costs and that the policy had not been updated for some time.
Resolution number 260016 (procurement policy) was introduced, seconded and approved by voice vote. The change is administrative and the board said it does not alter procurement practices beyond updated dollar thresholds. The board directed staff to publish the revised policy in village materials.
