White County’s solid waste committee discussed options for placing convenience centers after members said a county convenience center currently at the landfill will be removed at some future point. Committee members asked staff to investigate potential sites near Caswell and Dole to close the service gap and agreed to receive a report at the next solid waste meeting.
Committee members also received an update about the landfill's permitting and construction timeline. Staff reported the landfill has received a permit (pending a public hearing to be published in the local newspaper) and that preliminary site and dirt work has already started. Staff estimated building and related work could require up to a year after permit finalization before full operation of new facilities.
No formal votes were taken on siting; a committee member volunteered to investigate likely locations in cooperation with waste-management staff and to report back at the following meeting. Committee meeting dates were announced: the next full court is scheduled for July 21 at 6 p.m.; the next solid waste committee meeting is scheduled for August 4.
