Norton Council moves to place fire levy renewal on November ballot

The Norton City Council on July 7 voted to move forward with placing a renewal and increase of the city’s fire tax levy on the November ballot.
Council said it had previously passed a resolution of necessity on June 16 and that the current resolution (66-20-25) is the next procedural step following receipt of a county fiscal officer certification that estimated the levy’s assessed value and projected revenue. The resolution identifies permissible uses — fire apparatus, buildings, sites, water supply, emergency medical services and employer contributions — and cites relevant sections of the Ohio Revised Code in the resolution language.
Councilmember Harbert moved to waive additional readings and adopt the resolution; a unanimous roll call followed. City officials said that after adoption council staff will certify the levy question to the board of elections for inclusion on the November ballot.
Why this matters: If approved by local voters, the levy renewal and increase would provide ongoing funds for fire department apparatus, facilities and personnel, and for ambulance/EMS services operated by the fire department.
